Summer’s over but it’s good to be back

Now that I’m all moved in to my dorm and semi-unpacked, it’s official that I’ve begun my final year of college. I know I’ve bored you far too much already with my “oh how can it be my last year already” tirade so I’ll skip the sentiments this time around. The most overwhelming thing I feel right now is: it’s good to be back.

I missed the crazy squirrels who walk me to class. I missed the showdowns in the library to get the last good cubby. I missed the smell of late-night fried food runs and the unlimited ice cream bar in the dining hall. (You heard me. Un.lim.i.ted.) I even missed that stupid bell that chimes every half hour to let me know how late I actually am for class.

What I didn’t miss? That annoying kid with the rolling backpack who likes to run over people’s toes in the most narrow hallway on campus. (Like really, you couldn’t put it on your back for eight seconds?) I didn’t miss the super-early and super-late classes that I inevitably get signed up for every semester. (The snooze button just never seems to last long enough). Worst of all, I didn’t miss the looming threat of winter. I don’t care if it’s still August. The second I go back to school it’s like I can feel it. (Why do I live in New York again?)

On top of all these crazy feelings, there’s even more emotions surrounding my return to campus: the things I didn’t expect. Most notably, the fact that we got Dunkin’ Donuts coffee on campus. My caffeinated stimulant of choice is now available at my fingertips. Now whoever said change wasn’t a good thing? (Oh yeah, I did. Take it back).

Anyway, regardless of what happens it goes to show that whatever your experience there’s the good with the bad. And no matter what it goes by faster than you could ever imagine. So enjoy every minute of it!

Good luck in your new year! I know it’s going to be a great one.

Until next time,

Laura
