Tuesday Tour Day — Five Towns College

Five Towns College (FTC) is a private, non-for-profit, comprehensive higher education based system located in Dix Hills, N.Y. in the heart of Long Island.  Students come to the suburban campus from all areas of the world because of its reputation for music and performing arts. Five Towns College is an independent, nonsectarian, coeducational institution whose founders wanted to give the students an alternative to the “large university” experience. FTC is based on the core value of student individuality.

Education
FTC was the first institution in the state to offer curriculum in jazz/commercial music and is the top school in the area for music business and recording sciences. The college offers over 15 degree programs, most for either bachelor or associate’s degrees. FTC strongly believes in “hands-on” learning, expecting students to be actively involved in out-of-class assignments.

Student activities
FTC has an elected student government, which determines what extracurricular activities are on campus. Students can participate in a variety of clubs and organizations that relate to their area of study. Most students at the college are members of Audio Club, The Record (campus newspaper) and various intramural athletic leagues.

Residential life
Students live on campus in a living/learning complex of four residence halls equipped with a variety of single and double rooms. Campus is also equipped with, The Dix Hills Center for Performing Arts, an “acoustically perfect” auditorium with theater-style seating for 600, four state-of-the-art recording studios, and a multi-formatted television studio.

Financial aid
Five Towns College’s financial aid office administers almost $3.5 million worth of grants and loans per year. Tuition for Five Towns College is $17,400 with room and board costing $12,300. Grants and scholarships are awarded based on need and/or merit. Scholarships are available in childhood education, music performance, theater arts and mass communication.
