mvccMohawk Valley Community College (MVCC) was founded in 1946 as New York State’s first community college. A unit of the 64-campus State University of New York, it offers two-year degree programs on campuses in Utica, Rome, online, and at sites throughout the community.  Shorter-length certificate programs are also offered. Their mission is to promote student success and community involvement through a commitment to excellence and a spirit of service, providing opportunities for affordable education with support services for all students.

Academics
Students can choose from more than 90 majors, including fine and graphic arts, business, digital animation, engineering, allied health, hospitality, education, criminal justice, human services, technologies and trades. Many programs are enhanced by agreements with four-year colleges, so all or most credits transfer. All students must also fulfill the Diversity/Global View requirement for graduation, which is fundamental to MVCC’s commitment to raising student awareness of their increasingly diverse, globalized environment.

Campus life
The Utica Campus has residence halls for more than 500 students. The Academic Building houses classrooms, computer labs, fine arts studios, and labs for nursing, respiratory care and physics. If you are interested in playing a sport, athletes must be enrolled as full-time students at MVCC and have a physical examination specific for athletic competition on file prior to tryouts, practice and competition. Current teams for men and women include basketball, bowling, golf, cross country, lacrosse, track & field, soccer, volleyball and more.

Tuition
In-state residents pay $3,580 while out-of-state students have a rate of $7,160 per semester. Room and board is $8,260 with financial aid and scholarships available through the MVCC financial aid office.
