Freebie Friday — How to Prepare a Standout College Application

freebiefriday

Blank white book w/path It’s the start of the school year and we are going to kick things off right by giving away a copy of the book “How to Prepare a Standout College Application.” The book is written by Alison Cooper Chisolm and Anna Ivey, both from Ivey College Consulting and are former admissions officers.

It breaks out the application process into three parts: Getting started, Completing the application and Crossing the finish line. The premise of the book is to get you to stand apart from the other applicants — to go from “Like Many Others” to “Admit.”

“The key thing … to realize is that great credentials get you only halfway to Admit,” says Ivey. “The second half of your job as an applicant is showcasing your credentials and telling your story throughout the entire application.”

Overall, we liked the breakdown of the steps in the book. It makes it really easy to find what you should be doing next. Examples are given for how a student should give his or her response to application questions. We really liked the sentence structure for the “my story” essay with excellent lead-in questions and examples of responses from potential students.

We have an extra copy here at the office and we thought it best to share it with one of you! Please fill out the Rafflecopter below for your chance to win a copy of this book.
