Winter break bucket reading list

What is that I see? It’s something I haven’t seen in quite a while but…yes…I think it might be…free time!

The view from my couch this winter break.

The view from my couch this winter break.

After spending a long semester of hard work, I’m finally entering into my last break between semesters…ever. (Crazy!)

So, since this is upstate New York and it’s cold and becoming wintry, we’re preparing ourselves for a long haul of snow and blergggh (actual scientific term) for the next four months. (No, really. Four months. It’s horrible). Anyway, I decided that because of this impending blergggh that now is the time to get on my bucket reading list, or, books that I’ve been dying to read but I’ve had no time to. After all, there’s no better time than winter break to snuggle up on the couch with a cup of hot chocolate and a good book.

My list, in no particular order is as follows:

1. The “Divergent” series by Veronica Roth

Apparently this is supposed to be set in a dystopian society as was the Hunger Games and also includes crazy plot twists and some thought-provoking content. Sounds like my kind of book!

2. “Let’s Pretend this Never Happened” by Jenny Lawson

I will state for the record that I am not a fan of non-fiction. It’s usually boring and/or self-indulgent but I read a preview of this from my Kindle and, four pages in, I already loved it. Now I just have to wait for the library to finally have a copy available so I can read the rest!

3. “The Silver Linings Playbook” by Matthew Quick

Confession: the first time I heard of this was through a movie trailer. (Don’t judge!) However, I have not yet seen the movie and I WILL NOT until this book is read so I won’t completely shatter every value I’ve ever had.

4. All things John Green

If you haven’t read John Green before, you need to. Right now. I somehow managed to find time to read “The Fault in Our Stars” during the semester (lack of sleep was involved) but, wow, it was one of the best books I have ever read. And now, obviously, I have to read every other single thing he has ever written and try to satiate my need for excellent books until he writes a new one. To the library – away!

This list should last me all of about two weeks so if anyone has suggestions for what else I should read next I would love to hear them! Leave your suggestions in the comments below and I’ll check them out. (Literally. Ha, library humor).

Until next time,

Laura
