gen-writingIf you’re considering a community college for your post-grad plansNow that you have selected a community college, what’s next on your list of college preparation? Are you thinking of transferring to another school as your next step? If so, you figure out your 2+2 checklist. This step can be a little confusing, but helpful all at the same time! You will need to have a 2+2 checklist handy during every semester. You must also have it with you when you meet with your advisor at your community college.

You may be sitting down reading this and wondering what is a 2+2 check list? How do I receive one? I have some answers that may clear up any confusion you may have as you start your college journey. While I was a freshman and sophomore at Monroe Community College, I knew from the beginning that I was going to transfer to Roberts Wesleyan College for my last two years of college. I was required to take a load of courses at MCC that would transfer directly to Roberts. I found this list on my community college’s website. I always had it with me because this list kept me on track. When I met with my advisor and registered for classes each semester, I had this list with me. A 2+2 check list is a tool and a guide to keep transfer students organized and on track for their next step after a community college. You must check with your community college at their transfer office or on their website.

It is extremely important to print this checklist out while you register for you first semester classes at your community college. Do not hesitate in referring to this list during registration time. I recall times when I was confused while reading through my 2+2 checklist. To save myself from becoming more confused and taking courses that would not transfer, I called Roberts Wesleyan and asked about the list. If you are looking at your list lost and confused do not wait to call your transfer school.

Always keep in mind that a community college is to help save you money. While you are attending a two-year college, you want to sign up for the courses that are accepted by your next school. Make sure to check and double check to see if you are taking the right courses that match up with your 2+2 checklist.
