Krista’s Sports Corner – The off-season

krista_picSo here I am, back from winter break. An entire month of eating and devouring holiday sweets with my little cousins. A month of get-togethers with high school friends, which most commonly include a trip to a local eatery that we couldn’t get enough of in high school. As a college athlete I eat sleep and breathe fitness for most of the year, so naturally I brought home 4-8 workout outfits, my running sneakers, and numerous Nike sports bras. Who wants to guess how many times I worked out over that month break?

If you guessed more than 3 times, thanks for believing in me! However the answer is ZERO (and I hope that my coach will never be reading this!) So it’s time to get back on the horse this week. Maybe you too are trying to get back into the swing of things! Indoor season for your travel team is here and the last thing you need is to be gasping for breath in a cramped practice facility. In college you actually get more of a break from your sport! Although we do have a short Spring season, much of our off season during the winter consists of personal fitness and recreational indoor play- if your team so chooses. So this week it’s time to get back into the swing of things, and I think I’m going to go a little above and beyond this year. I’m trying Insanity, and currently all I know about it is that it’s literally insane. Apparently it’s another one of those work out tapes, which I’ve never tried, so I’m hoping that I’ll feel compelled to never miss a day, or video which will hopefully keep me on track. So here’s to hoping that I actually follow through and don’t resort to my 45 minute elliptical workout.  Wish me luck!
