College Blog Review — Dorm/Apartment Decorating

Spring is quickly approaching and you’re probably reaching a point where you’re not only in need of a little spring cleaning but also some decorating TLC. If you are looking for some easy, inexpensive DIY projects to brighten up your place, check out the Ikea Hackers blog.

What is it about?
Ikea Hackers is not affiliated with Ikea but all tutorials feature upgrades of Ikea furniture. Some “hacks” are as simple as adding an embellishment and others require tools and might be a little out of the realm of possibility for a college environment. Idea Hackers began in 2006 after the creator came across various tutorials online and planned to host them all in one place.

Why we like it
First off, the blog features only goods found at Ikea, a store that sells reasonable and functional products ideal for college students on a budget. Taking Ikea one step further, this blog offers endless ideas for updating Ikea furniture with step-by-step instructions and pictures that go along with them.

Ikea Hackers divides each tutorial into its own webpage complete with photos, a list of materials and the step-by-step process, as well as any problems that were encountered. The pages include related posts for similar pieces that you might have.

What if I don’t have an Ikea near me?
Although the site focuses on pieces specific to Ikea, it’s worth noting that a lot of the tips and tutorials can be applied to pieces you might already have or could come across though resources such as garage sales or Craigslist.

Check out Ikea Hackers and see how you can brighten up your room or apartment for spring!
