A college in Georgia is taking a unique approach to get students to stick around and finish school. And it involves cell phones and texting!
Georgia Gwinnett College is arming its team of more than 300 full- and part-time faculty members with smartphones and paying for their service plans. The thinking at Gwinnett College is that it will help get dropout-prone college students more attention. And a recent engagement survey at the college shows that students have reported “feeling that faculty care about and are accessible to them,” according to an article in Insider Higher Education.
So is that all it takes to help students succeed? A cell phone with a teacher or professor on the other end?
If that’s the case, why doesn’t every high school or college (especially those that suffer from low graduation and retention rates!) offer this kind of resource to its students and professors?
