U.S. News & World Report Best Colleges 2014 rankings released

The annual report provides rankings of colleges and universities that award bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees. It is designed to provide information students need to make informed choices about their education.

The rankings are available now on USNews.com. The print edition will hit newsstands on Sept. 24, 2013.

Since colleges and universities are ranked in a variety of ways, the listings are extensive.

Here are the Top 6 National Universities, just to give you an example of the listings:
1. Princeton University
2. Harvard University
3. Yale University
4. Columbia University
5. University of Chicago tied with Stanford University

The Top 6 Liberal Arts College Rankings are:
1. Williams College
2. Amherst College
3. Swarthmore College
4. Bowdoin College tied with Middlebury College and also Pomona College

Schools are grouped into ten categories by region and type of institution.Within each category, institutions are ranked according to several indicators of academic excellence.
