Tuesday Tour Day – Converse College

Today, let’s take a tour of Converse College!

Located in Spartanburg, SC, Converse is one of 7 colleges in this college town of 13,000 students. Spartanburg also offers a variety of opportunities to students from local restaurants and clubs to cultural opportunities at the Chapman Cultural Arts Center or the Hub Bub Showroom. Spartanburg is just 3 hours from the beach and 1 hour from the mountains. U.S.News & World Report and Forbes rank Converse among the best colleges in the nation.

Converse couples the benefits of a women’s college—the room to think and grow, an environment where opinions are valued and sought after. Life at Converse is anchored in the classroom, with great professors, interesting courses, and challenging assignments. And our Center for Student Development & Success makes sure you do well in that arena.

With a 10:1 student to faculty ratio, Converse students get lots of personal attention from the faculty.  The faculty will know the students well and will help them achieve their goals.

Your “free” time on campus will be anything but. Our campus life calendar is packed with events and activities.  Events include athletics, Wild Wednesdays with a comedian or musician to a large concert each spring feature headliners as Darius Rucker, Zac Brown Band and Matt Nathanson.

Converse is one of only two women’s colleges to compete at the NCAA Division II level. As a member of Conference Carolinas, Converse offers students the opportunity to be a student-athlete. Boasting eight team sports including soccer, swimming, cross country, lacrosse, basketball, tennis and volleyball, Converse recently reinstated an IHSA equestrian program and will tee off the Valkyries newly established golf program in the fall of 2012.

Academic scholarships range from $9-18,000 annually.  In addition to the academic scholarships, students may also be considered for talent-based scholarships for athletics or for majoring in a field within the School of the Arts. Over 90% of the students at Converse are eligible for Financial Aid and the average aid package is $18,500 annually (not including loans).

Converse’s regular decision deadline is November 15th.  Students who apply by November 15th will receive an admission decision by December 1.  Students should submit the application, their high school transcript, a recommendation, and either SAT or ACT test scores.
