From BioMedical Engineering to a Career in HealthCare IT Systems

By Drew Simmons

Career: Healthcare IT Systems

Degree: Biomedical Engineering (BME) from University of Virginia, Class of 2015

Why I chose BioMedical Engineering?

BME appealed to me because I was able to not only study the biological sciences that interested me, but I was also able to apply my studies to real-world problems in projects both in and out of the classroom. Majoring in BME put me right at the crossroads of design, research, and clinical opportunities within healthcare, in a way rarely seen in other engineering disciplines. This jumpstarted a career in healthcare IT systems, where I am able to use both my clinical and technical knowledge to improve patient care at hospitals across the country.
