Book Review: Get an Internship and Make the Most of It
“Get an Internship and Make the Most of It,” written by authors Joan E. McLachlan and Patricia F. Hess, is an impeccable guide on how to figure out if you’re prepared for an internship. This book is broken down into eleven different sections, each of which is specific to situations you may encounter.
Topics they cover include how to find an internship, things you need to have for an internship, getting ready for an interview, getting off to a good start, getting the most out of your internship, how to finish strong and much more. This book covers every aspect of the internship process, including when an experience might not be working out for you and what to do next once your internship is over. It’s a great way to experience the internship process from beginning to end — before you even set foot in an office.
Each of these sections has testimonials and tips that give good examples of what it is going to be like on your journey to finding the perfect internship for yourself. Within each chapter, along with the testimonials and tips, are key takeaways that will help summarize everything you just read and help you prioritize what exactly is important to take away from the section.
What I liked most about this particular guide to internships, is that it helps you feel prepared and informed. The breakdown of information and add ins from personal testimonies in each individual section is a tremendous help to shedding light on the topic.
