What to do with a year off and a chance to win!!

If someone told you to go wait tables for a year instead of heading to your first-choice college, what would you tell them?

When I was in high school, I’d probably have laughed them out of the county.

But I do know a lot of students who would have benefited from a year off of school. To work, to mature, to figure out what it is they really wanted to do.

Check out this article from the Washington Post. What would YOU do if you took a year off? Would you work? Travel?

Figure out the perfect napping environment, once and for all? (Saturday afternoon, rainy, 50-ish degrees, on the couch, FYI. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz)

I think following the bookstores online is a great idea- I doubt I would have thought of that. The electronic texts are also a new concept for me- but I like the idea! I will definitely remember that when it comes time to buy textbooks.

Jasmine, send an email with your address to editor@nextstepmag.com and we’ll make sure you get your OU goodies!!

What would I do with a year off of schooling, a year to do anything that I wished to do? What I’d probably do would stay at home and work on my writing, play video games, hang with friends, that type of thing, but something I would love to do during that year would be to travel to Greece, the place has fascinated me since I was little kid, the rich mythology especially.

I would try environmental traveling. Living in hostels, riding buses etc., and learn how people in other cultures live.

If I had to take a year off before school I would travel Europe. (But perhaps I would have to work first to get enough money!) :o)

I would take AP and CLEP Classes. (But after that I would love to travel to France, Britian, Spain, China, and more.) However, like Jennifer I would also like to learn how to surf, but I would also like to learn how to ski. In addition, to all of these activities I would 1) like to see the ocean, and 2) be on a boat out in the middle of the ocean. Before I do this, however, I must first learn to sail!
