Tuesday Tour Day – University at Buffalo, the State University of New York

This week, we’re touring the University at Buffalo, the State University of New York. Check it out!

The University at Buffalo is a premier public research university, a flagship institution in the State University of New York system and its pro-ubuffalo-09largest and most comprehensive campus. UB was the first public university in New York to be admitted into the Association of American Universities, joining North America’s other leading research universities. Our thinking, research, creative activity, and people positively impact and change the world. When you become a student at UB, you will have the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of others. You’ll have opportunities to work with renowned professors – including National Medal of Science, Nobel, and Pulitzer, and other award-winners – to create exciting innovations that benefit our global community.

UB students benefit from a truly engaging learning environment. Through innovative resources like Undergraduate Academies, Discovery Seminars and the Center for Undergraduate Research and Creative Activities, you can gain valuable hands-on experience that will prepare you for success in today’s global marketplace. And with more than 100 undergraduate degree programs and nearly 30 combined degrees, you’ll be able to explore whatever you set your mind to.

UB emphasizes academics—but we don’t forget about the rest of your life. UB’s championship-caliber Division 1 athletic teams are strong contenders in the MAC conference. In fact, in 2008, the UB Bulls football team captured the MAC championship and earned a berth in the International Bowl.  We sponsor more than 200 student clubs and organizations, and there is always something brewing on campus, from concerts to festivals to our Distinguished Speaker Series.

The bustling North Campus, where most of our core academic programs are offered is located in suburban Amherst. Our picturesque South Campus, dedicated mainly to architecture and the health sciences, sits nearby in a residential section of Buffalo. UB’s growing Downtown Campus recently added a sixth building with major expansion on the horizon. Future plans include a range of programs that directly serve residents of the community in the areas of education, information, job training and health care.

In recent years, UB has awarded more than $4 million in merit scholarships annually to incoming freshmen. The percentage of students receiving financial aid is 70 percent.
