Tuesday Tour Day — Oklahoma Baptist University
Located in Shawnee, Oklahoma, Oklahoma Baptist University integrates faith into its education, allowing students to receive academic excellence as well as a chance to engage in a diverse world. Using Christian values, OBU prepares its students academically, while pushing them to maintain their dedication to making a difference. It’s a small school with 1,979 students, but they come from 42 states and 30 foreign countries.
Academics
OBU offers bachelor’s degrees in 86 areas of study. The offerings are broad — you can get a degree in ministry, biology or accounting. It has a liberal arts curriculum to supply students with a well-rounded education. The student/faculty ratio is 15:1, so you can ask questions and get the right attention.
Campus Life
OBU is situated on a 200-acre campus and consists of 34 buildings. The 60-plus campus organizations help sharpen skills and abilities, while keeping students connected with their faith. As for athletics, there are 21 varsity sports and eight junior varsity teams that compete in the NAIA. OBU offers intramural sports, too. There’s a variety of options including flag football, ultimate Frisbee and even quidditch. In addition to students, professors also compete.
Financial Aid
Ninety-nine percent of students receive some form of financial aid. The school provides over $20 million in scholarships each year based on financial need, academics, athletics or talent. Tuition at OBU is $18,894 and room and board is $6,200.
