Tuesday Tour Day — Mohawk Valley Community College
Today we are touring Mohawk Valley Community College located in Utica, N.Y.!
Mohawk Valley Community College (MVCC) was founded in 1946 as New York State’s first community college. The college offers two-year degree programs on campuses in Utica, Rome, online, and at sites throughout the community. Shorter-length certificate programs are also offered. MVCC’s mission is to promote a commitment to excellence and a spirit of service, providing opportunities for affordable education with support services for all students.
MVCC strives to help all students pursue personalized education, complete with the latest technologies, tutoring, advisement, job placement, and transfer services. Students can choose from more than 90 majors, including fine and graphic arts, business, digital animation, engineering, allied health, hospitality, education, criminal justice, human services, technologies and trades. Many programs are enhanced by agreements with four-year colleges, so all or most credits transfer. All students must fulfill the Diversity/Global View requirement for graduation, which is fundamental to MVCC’s commitment to raising student awareness of their increasingly diverse, globalized environment.
There are many ways to get involved in the MVCC campus community, with more than 50 student-run clubs and organizations tailored to a variety of academic subject areas and interests. MVCC’s Cultural Series brings a variety of entertainment, including musicians, comedians, magicians, movies, and dancers, to its state-of-the-art theaters and venues in Utica and Rome. MVCC also offers one of the most extensive, diverse, and successful two-year college intercollegiate athletic programs in the country. Sports include baseball, basketball, bowling, cross country, golf, hockey, indoor track, lacrosse, soccer, softball, tennis, track and field, and volleyball.
