Stefanie Wu from Barrigada, Guam is a well-rounded student who has contributed to her school and community in numerous ways and will now contribute her talents to the NextStepU Teen Advisory Board.
As a junior at the Academy of Our Lady of Guam, Wu loves spending her time volunteering. Throughout high school she has volunteered at numerous organizations, including the Children’s Alee Shelter, United Services Organization (USO), Guam Memorial Hospital Skilled Nurse Unit, Salvation Army and St. Dominic Senior Care Home.
Currently, Wu serves as the vice president of Model United Nation and Japanese Club at her high school. She also served as a lawyer and co-captain of mock trial and vice president of the class of 2013, which won second place in the Song Festival Competition.
Other accomplishments of Wu’s include induction into the National Honor Society Camarin Chapter, the certification of appreciation for her work in the Salvation Army and being named the current salutatorian of her junior class. She is currently a member of the following clubs on campus: Model United Nations, mock trial, student council, Future Educators Association, Japanese club and Spanish club at her school.
Outside of school and her time spent volunteering, Wu enjoys swimming, playing tennis and tumbling. She enjoys spending time with her family and traveling. One of her favorite memories of travel is when she traveled to the United States to attend the National Youth Leadership Forum in Medicine at the University of California Los Angles. “Although the forum only lasted 10 days, it is a memory worth remembering for a lifetime,” she says. “Everyone I met had diverse backgrounds and had the same interests as I do.”
For the summer, Wu is looking into an internship at a local pharmacy. Her plans for college are centered on her passion for medicine, biology, chemistry and especially pharmacy. Wu hopes to one day obtain a Ph.D after attending a six-year pharmacy program.
