If you’ve read my stimulating commentary on this blog before (how could you resist, right?) you might remember a little story I had about trying and failing to make myself soup for dinner, thus proving once and for all that I should not be allowed in a kitchen without supervision. Despite this, I decided that it might be a good idea to experiment with some of my favorite summer food and make (actually edible) meals for me to enjoy while I’m soaking up some sunshine.
Alright fine, by “experiment” I mean “make this one almost recipe that’s not really a recipe but tastes better than peanut butter and jelly and requires a knife and several ingredients so I call it a recipe.” And don’t worry, I’ll be mind-numbingly detailed so no one who may attempt this ends up with a finger chopped off.
Mozzarella, tomato and basil sandwich.
(I actually came up with this little creation myself! Well, maybe the Italians did but whatever I made it on my own WITHOUT a recipe. Who says I can’t learn?)
Ingredients:
One of those big mozzarella balls, sliced
Tomatoes, also sliced
Fresh basil leaves (and no, you can’t substitute the dried kind. Even I know that’s ick)
Wheat roll, toasted
To assemble:
Cut open bread (and be careful with knife! They are sharp. The cut on my finger would know). Put on layer of mozzarella, tomato and basil. (And please make it even. My OCD is already making me want to re-arrange your basil so there’s an even distribution across your sandwich). Repeat with another layer (or several more depending on how hungry you are).
Eat and enjoy fruits of your labor!
Wow, reading this over again makes me sound really pathetic. Maybe you should just take advice people who actually know what they are doing. Or, better yet, you could follow our new Pinterest page which has a special board dedicated to easy recipes college students could make! Now how’s that for a coincidence?
