Do you have a desire to work for our country in the armed forces? Are you thinking of joining the military after high school? Here are some things you will want to know before you do!
Education: A four-year college degree is required for most careers in the armed forces. Most often the armed forces will provide students with scholarships to complete their education if they will go on to serve after graduating. The careers that don’t require a four-year degree are taught through an apprenticeship, so it’s important to know which option will best fit your military career choice.
What to know before you apply: Most jobs in the armed forces operate under high-stress situations. You may also be expected to move to a base to train and possibly be stationed overseas. It’s important to be prepared to do your job in unexpected conditions.
Salary: Salaries will vary based on branch of service, rank and occupation. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, newly enlisted recruits will receive a monthly salary of about $1,400. More experienced officers could earn about $2,655 a month upon recruitment.
