We are so happy to introduce you to our summer intern, Rachel! Rachel comes to us from Nazareth College and is sure to be a great addition to our staff for the next few months. We have loved getting to know her and we know you will, too!
Hello, everyone! I’m Rachel, the newest intern at NextStepU!
I’m from Ogdensburg, N.Y. (ten points for anyone who has ever heard of it), but I am staying in Rochester over the summer. I love reading, writing, watching movies, swimming, and perusing things I cannot afford on the Urban Outfitters website. I just finished my junior year at Nazareth College. At Naz, I’m on my way to completing a dual major in communications and rhetoric/English literature.
After graduation, I hope to put my two majors to use by becoming a writer. While I have not completely figured out what I want to do, I know that professional/technical writing will probably be in my future. My secret dream — well not now, I guess — is to write and create my own television series a la Tina Fey or Lena Dunham, minus the whole acting thing. Do you think this is as far-fetched as I do? No matter where I end up career-wise, I want to be writing and putting my own thoughts on paper or, more likely, the internet.
That is why I am here at NextStepU. So far, I have written a few blog entries and have loved the opportunity to be creative, while using the writing skills I acquired in college. During my internship, I want to learn more about writing in a professional setting; how the publication process works; how to dress like a grown-up at work (I have struggled in this area thus far).
More seriously, my goal is to contribute to something I really believe in: helping educate people. I love college and learning, and know I will miss it when I graduate next year. By contributing to NextStepU, and learning about its publications, I hope to help other students attain their education goals.
