Major Monday — Sports Fitness Administration
The world of sports cannot function without someone running the show. Anything from local basketball teams to the Super Bowl requires some sort of administration and management to make sure that everything runs smoothly. If you are someone who is interested in the world of sports, you are interested in math and science and you are organized, you might want to consider a major in sports fitness administration.
Education
This major typically leads to a bachelor’s degree. In high school, some helpful courses to help you prepare for this major include statistics, psychology, physics and AP Biology. In college, you should be prepared to take classes such as athletic and fitness program management, history of sports, human anatomy and physiology, sports finance and sports management. You should also be prepared to cover topics ranging from creating a budget, to memorizing parts of the body, to learning marketing strategies. All of these scenarios are things you will need to learn to be successful on the job.
What to know before you apply
Experience and post-graduation opportunities are essential when it comes to choosing a school. Does the school you’re looking at offer partnerships with local sports venues where you can practice running an event? Will you have the opportunity to intern with local sports organizations? Are internships required? Also be sure to check the alumni database — is there a graduate who can help you get into job post-graduation?
