If so, film production might be the perfect college major for you! Film production majors learn how to make movies by exploring the role of every person on a movie set.

Education
According to the College Board, film production majors usually earn a bachelor’s degree. If you want a jumpstart on your film education, take AP Art History, photography, computer/graphic arts and AP English Literature in high school. Typical college classes for film production majors include digital editing, directing, screenwriting and cinematography.

What to know before you apply
There are many different kinds of movies (narrative, documentary, short, animated, experimental). If you have a specific preference, make sure that your prospective college will offer classes or a concentration on the films you are interested in. Also, find out whether you will learn about television production, as it could strengthen your job prospects. Finally, consider the number of projects you will be working on during your undergraduate career. You might be solely responsible for one film, or you could be working with a group of people on many different films. Which option would you prefer?

Salary
A degree in film production will prepare you for careers in photography, film editing and multimedia animation. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, photographers earned an average salary of $36,580 per year. Film editors earned $66,690 in 2011, while multimedia animators earned $68,060.
