This week, we’re touring William Peace University in North Carolina!pro-wpu_12

William Peace University is located in the heart of Raleigh, North Carolina. It was founded in 1857 as Peace Institute, offering education for boys and girls in primary grades and to women from high school to college. Peace, an all women’s college, became a four-year baccalaureate college and graduated its first bachelor’s students in August of 1996. In 2011, Peace College transitioned to William Peace University and began admitting male students to its day program in fall 2012. Its mission is to prepare students for careers in the organizations of tomorrow. On average, more than 90 percent of the university’s graduates are placed in jobs or graduate school within one year of graduation.

Our new core curriculum emphasizes basic knowledge needed beyond graduation. Mandatory courses in personal financial management, media literacy and four years of writing courses within the English department. A series of three classes focusing on career and professional development is a requirement. Through the Portfolio Seminars Series, you’ll learn how to construct a resumé, build a portfolio, interview for a job or apply for graduate school. An academic internship related to your major is required, with the goal of combining educational theory with job experience.

WPU is located on a beautiful campus in the vibrant city of Raleigh, North Carolina. From campus, it’s an easy stroll – or a free bus ride – to the heart of the City of Oaks, its political pulse, and its rich and varied museums, music halls, restaurants, theaters and nightlife. Observe the state legislature in session, dine downtown in popular cafés, attend concerts or enjoy live theatre at the REP and NCSU.

WPU has over 30 student clubs and organizations, great lawns to spread out and study or play and hosts a multitude of activities. Some of our most recent activities include: Going out downtown to First Friday; Bonfire; Zombie Tag; Slip ‘n Slide; T-Shirt swap; and more!

Peace is a member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division III and of the USA South Athletic Conference. As a member of NCAA DIII, Peace promotes a spirit of participation and a love for sports as the primary motivators for intercollegiate competition. For women, we offer team basketball, cross country, soccer, softball, tennis and volleyball. For men, there’s basketball, golf and cross country. In 2014, we will also add men’s baseball and soccer.
