Today, we’re taking a tour of Aquinas College!
Aquinas is a four year, Catholic, co-educational, liberal arts college located in Grand Rapids, Michigan’s second largest city. The campus is a 107 acre park-like area on a former estate with an enrollment of over 1,600 undergraduate students. The college offers over 60 majors, and has international programs in Italy, Costa Rica, France, Germany, Ireland, Japan and Spain. Internships are a part of nearly every Aquinas student experience. Students may choose from more than 60 clubs and organizations. The annual “Wake Up People” party, polar plunge and open mic night are just a few of the student life traditions on campus.
The Sturrus Sports and Fitness Center completed phase1 of a projected $12 million renovation and expansion in October 2010. The Grace Hauenstein Library, completed in August 2006, provides a great venue for students to research and study. A nearly $2 million renovation to the Aquinas Academic Building was completed in May 2008. The newly completed Performing Arts Center provides entertainment for students and the broader community. The college offers traditional residence halls, service learning homes, honors housing, and on-campus apartments. The newest apartment building was completed in August 2008.
Aquinas outstanding athletic program has won eleven of the past fourteen conference all sports trophies. Aquinas fields teams in 18 intercollegiate sports. Intramurals are also very popular among the student body.
Aquinas Spectrum Scholarship Program provides awards for academics, leadership, service and athletics. More than 90% of freshmen receive financial assistance.
